Erica manipuliflora
Mt. Ismaros, Thrace, Greece, November 24, 2011
After a very intresting morning in the school of Sapes, in the Evros department, we decided with my friend Kleopatra to visit the ancient theater of Maroneia, which was then the main candidate for a prsospected EU proposal. On our way back to Alexandroupoli we observed an entire slope on the foothills of Mt. Ismaros, covered with Erica bushes in full bloom. This is a very important plant for the apiculture, since it often represents the only source of nectar for the bees during early winter. For the record the EU proposal was never submitted J.
Dodecatheon hedersonii (shooting star)
Paradise creek, Sierra Nevada CA, USA, April 7, 2010
When I first saw the flowers of Dodecatheon, the very evening that we camped with my friend George on the second Sierra camp on our way to the Sequoia park, I thaugh they were already wizen. The next day, under better light conditions, I realized they were just like that, honoring their common name of 'shooting stars'.
