Kniphofia thomsonii

Kilimanjaro Mt., Tanzania, Mars 1, 2009

Most Kniphofiae are native to Africa, Madagascar and Yemen, but they are widespread also around the Pacific Ocean. The pictures show ripe (red) and fresh (yellow) individuals. They were taken in the grassland between Madara and Horombo huts, on Kilimanjaro Mt., at an altitude of approx. 3100 m. On the second picture the silhouette of the Mauenzi pick appears in the background. My friend Andreas was always kindly waiting for me to finish my photo-shooting (or was he too tired to catch-up the agile local mountain guides?) J
