Kniphofia thomsonii
Kilimanjaro Mt., Tanzania, Mars 1, 2009
Most Kniphofiae are native to Africa, Madagascar and Yemen , but they are widespread also around the Pacific Ocean . The pictures show ripe (red) and fresh (yellow) individuals. They were taken in the grassland between Madara and Horombo huts, on Kilimanjaro Mt. , at an altitude of approx. 3100 m . On the second picture the silhouette of the Mauenzi pick appears in the background. My friend Andreas was always kindly waiting for me to finish my photo-shooting (or was he too tired to catch-up the agile local mountain guides?) J
